Context-aware systems: concept, functions and applications in digital libraries
Authors
Abstract:
Background and Aim Among the places that context-aware systems and services would be very useful, are libraries. The purpose of this study is to achieve a coherent definition of context aware systems and applications, especially in digital libraries. Method: This was a review article that was conducted by using Library method by searching articles and e-books on websites and databases. Results: Findings of this study indicate that context-aware services in digital libraries by understanding specific conditions of each user - such as demographic characteristics, time position, location and collecting and analyzing of its data - could provide smart and appropriate services. Conclusion: Digital libraries are constantly evolving and moving forward and must coordinate themselves with on-going changes. Equipping libraries with context-aware services lead them to best meet information needs of their users, without limitation of time and place.

full textContext-Aware Recommender Systems: A Review of the Structure Research
Recommender systems are a branch of retrieval systems and information matching, which through identifying the interests and requires of the user, help the users achieve the desired information or service through a massive selection of choices. In recent years, the recommender systems apply describing information in the terms of the user, such as location, time, and task, in order to produce re...

Background and Aim: Interaction in a digital library help users locating and accessing information and also assist them in creating knowledge, better perception, problem solving and recognition of dimension of resources. This paper tries to identify and introduce the components and elements that are used in interaction between user and system in search and retrieval of information in digital li...
full textPersonalising Context-Aware Applications
The immaturity of the field of context-aware computing means that little is known about how to incorporate appropriate personalisation mechanisms into context-aware applications. One of the main challenges is how to elicit and represent complex, context-dependent requirements, and then use the resulting representations within context-aware applications to support decision-making processes. In t...
full textTIP Spatial Index: Efficient Access to Digital Libraries in a Context-Aware Mobile System
We present a framework for efficient, uniform, location-based access to digital library collections that are external to a context-aware mobile information system. Using a tourist Information system, we utilize a spatial index to manage the context of location. We show how access to resources from within and outside of the tourist information system can be carried out in a seamless manner. We s...
